It takes a heap of giving in a world to make it go,

A heap of joys and sorrows that we children have to
                                   know;

It takes a heap of loving and a heap of being kind,

And doing good for others must be constant on the
                                   mind.

It takes a lot of friendship, the kind that gold can't
                                   buy,

It takes a lot of sentiment that makes you want to cry;

It takes a lot of courage--makes you want to do your
                                   part,

It needs a pure religion growing right into the heart.

It takes a lot of sunshine and it takes a lot of tears,

Needs the daffodils and roses to be blooming through
                                    the years;

It takes a lot of memories of the past to make you
                                    know,

That it takes a lot of loving in a world to make it go.
